Collector’s Library Editions in Colour
Collector’s Library Editions in Colour are astonishing examples of the illustrator’s art. Each illustration is individually hand-coloured by Barbara Frith to enhance the original drawing or woodcut, and enormous care is taken to be true to the spirit of the individual illustrator.
Thus, the delicate ‘powder and patch’ line drawings of Hugh Thomson for Jane Austen are delicately rendered in pastels, whilst the more robust style of Sir John Gilbert’s Shakespeare illustrations take stronger colours.
Barbara Frith is one of Britain’s leading colourists. Her rendering of Hugh Thomson’s illustrations have won the approval and commendation of both Jane Austen House Museum at Chawton and The Jane Austen Centre at Bath.
