Jane Eyre
September saw the UK release of Jane Eyre, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and starring Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Dame Judi Dench and Jamie Bell. The Guardian described it as ‘balanced, crafted, beautifully acted’. There have been many adaptations of Jane Eyre for both the cinema and televison screens – most famously until now the version starring Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine but ‘the Wasikowska/Fassbender duet puts all others to shame – they are leaps and bounds better than Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine in the 1944 film.’ – Daily Telegraph. Sherlock Holmes

Charles Dickens
2012 is the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens. There are now ten titles in our handy format, and the Collector’s Library will celebrate by reprinting the best-known novels and stories with a belly-band on each book. To mark the occasion we will publish perhaps the most popular of all Charles Dickens’s tales, A Christmas Carol, in colour – the beautiful John Leech illustrations will be meticulously hand-coloured by Barbara Frith – to mark the 200th birthday one one of England’s greatest writers. Anonymous
Anonymous, a new film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Rhys Ifans as Edward de Vere and Vanessa Redgrave as Elizabeth I will be released in late October. The film follows the involvement of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford as not only the incestuous lover of Queen Elizabeth, but also the true author of the works of William Shakespeare, played by Rafe Spall. Judge for yourself whether this controversial theory has any merit by reading Collector’s Library editions of Shakespeare’s Sonnets or some of the eight (12 by April 2012) individual plays, or the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, available as a large-format Collector’s Library Edition.
